Metamorphosis: Lessons from 2024

2024 was a hard year for me.
In January, my dad passed away unexpectedly.
It was sad and brought up many difficult questions about life—questions with no easy answers.
But, like most things, it wasn’t all bad. There were also good moments in 2024.
I’ve felt the quiet confidence that comes with getting older, stronger, and calmer.
Here are my four highlights from 2024:
1) QUIT
“Quitting on time is a skill just as much as it is an act of courage.”

This quote is a powerful reminder that knowing when to let go is just as important as holding on.
The book is about making thoughtful decisions, about moving forward. It’s been a big inspiration for me this year.
2024 has been a year of deep questions and personal transformation—a bit like a metamorphosis.
I’ve felt sad and moved in ways I didn’t expect.
I’ve asked myself many hard questions.
It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been a time for growth, reflection, and finding my next steps forward.
This year, I made the decision to move on from my “third baby,” – my company, Share PLM. After leading the company for six years, it had become a big part of my identity.
Luckily, the “child” has moved in with the amazing Beatriz.
Beatriz and I have been close since 2011, when we met in our first year of aerospace engineering in Madrid.
As two of the few women in the class, we quickly bonded.
Beatriz inspires me.
She’s brilliant, direct, and strong.
She always shows up.
I admire her deeply.
She’s my rock.
2) CONNECT
“Connection is why we’re here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.”
– Brené Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection

This year, I’ve come to realize that connection—with others, with myself, and with the world—is at the heart of everything that matters.
In my journey of self-discovery, I’ve found joy in the smallest moments.
Having a coffee with a friend.
Watching my kids dance and jump in the rain.
Getting together in a room buzzing with energy and full of ideas.
Connection is about being present and letting life unfold in its messy, magical way.
This focus on connection has also inspired my next big project: The Nest.
The Nest will be a space for team retreats in the south of Spain.
We’ve bought an old building that we’ll renovate into a space for teams to come together, brainstorm, and hold workshops.
It’s a project that’s close to my heart because it holds everything I value—bringing people together in meaningful ways.
Next year, I’ll be dedicating my energy to The Nest – and I couldn’t be more excited about creating a space where connection and creativity can thrive.
3) INSPIRE
“The spark of being human is the ability to dream of something better and take action to create it.”
– Inspired by The Art of Possibility by Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander

This year, I’ve been inspired by people who embody that spark—who remind me of the incredible power of human potential and creation. The Art of Possibility is a book that captures this idea: inspiration isn’t just about what we dream, but about how we turn those dreams into reality.
Here is a list of people that have inspired me these year:
- My coworker Maria, our new Head of Business Development at Share PLM. At just 25, she’s driven, full of life, and a force to be reckoned with. Watching her grow as we’ve worked together brings me so much joy.
- My brother Kike, a researcher and AI professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, also inspires me. This year, we collaborated on Bit2Brain, our blog exploring AI, which has challenged me and pushed my thinking to new heights.
- Claire, who works with us as a freelancer. She’s a creative mind and constantly thinks outside the box. I’m inspired by her journey and the fresh perspective she brings to every project.
I’ve also been inspired to see new horizons thanks to people like Mikael from the Q-Group. My friend Jorgen introduced me to him, and his holding company of 40 consulting firms inspired us to start Share Enterprises, a group of companies where technology begins with people.
Finally, I’ve also been inspired by:
- Michael Girdley, whose insights on holding companies and excellent course have been a great starting point.
- My mentor Antonio G., who is always 1,000 steps ahead of me and pushes me to think beyond the limits of what I thought possible.
- Oleg Shilovitsky, whose friendship and guidance are truly invaluable.
Inspiration comes in so many forms—whether it’s the spark of someone starting their journey, the brilliance of a sibling, or the guidance of mentors and peers.
These people have shown me what’s possible when we lean into our potential and dare to create something better.
4) LEARN
“Every moment that we are awake, we are learning something new, even if we don’t realize it.”
– Naval Ravikant

I enjoyed The Almanack of Naval Ravikant, a book of his insights about curiosity, growth, and reflection.
2024 has been a year of deep learning for me. I’ve spent many of my days diving into the world of AI. The more I learn, the more fascinated I become with its potential.
But most importantly, I’ve learned to sit quietly with my thoughts.
I’ve learned to be okay with feeling sad, and to embrace the discomfort of change.
I’ve learned to move forward and to let go.
This journey of discovery has not only expanded my knowledge but also reignited my curiosity about what’s possible when we combine technology with human creativity.
These are my highlights from 2024.
Now, I’m ready to say goodbye to this year.
